DataTracker: Favorite boat, state by state

We spend a lot of time looking at numbers, quantifying trends at www.boattrader.com and other Dominion Marine Media websites. This month, we changed it up and created a map graphic that shows each state’s preferred boat class, based on searches by Boat Trader visitors during the summer months of 2013.

Across the South and right up the East Coast, the versatile center console ruled. In the West, the ski and wakeboard boat dominated. On the Great Lakes, cruisers came into their own, and through the Midwest, bowriders and bass boats held sway.

If this were a presidential election, it looks to us as if center consoles and ski and wakeboard boats would lead at the ballot box, but there’d be no clear winner. Fortunately in boating, every type is best for someone.
