As an indication of shifting interests among the boat-buying public, we periodically check and report on the types of boats that are attracting the most searches on BoatTrader.com.

More than half of the site’s 158,000 listings are for used boats, and in our latest query we compared searches in 2012 with those made in 2011.

We should note that we have not included personal watercraft in the ranking. Along with powerboats and sailboats, the PWC is a higher-level choice within most search formats on Boat Trader. It is therefore much more commonly selected in searches than any of the other boat types.

In our latest ranking, the versatile center console moves up from second to first, displacing bass boats, but the two types remain very close in popularity. Other multipurpose boats moved up, including pontoons, fish-and-ski, cuddy cabins and deckboats.
