Last month we looked at the most-viewed boat classes on Boat Trader. This month we begin a three-month series breaking down the interest in some of the more popular classes by state, starting with boats for saltwater fishing.

Ever hear of Florida? It’s surrounded by saltwater and some of the best fishing in the country, so it’s no surprise that it leads all states in demonstrating interest in this type of boat. But by more than the next five states put together? That’s a dominant position in this category.

The other states in the top 20 rank largely on the basis of population and saltwater coastline. We were impressed to find four freshwater states in the top 20 — Michigan, Ohio, Illinois and Tennessee.

Although there may be dreamers in those states, and others who travel to the coasts, it’s also likely that many co-opt saltwater-designated boats for lake and river fishing, as well.
