Aluminum boats provide good value, and in many categories they have sold well, compared with fiberglass models, in the post-recession period.

This month we looked at the top-searched aluminum brands on Boat Trader and we immediately noted that although pontoon models have been selling well since the Great Recession, all-purpose aluminum models for fishing and utility use are still the most-searched in the category.

It’s not until you get to No. 9, Starcraft, that you find a brand that sells pontoon models.

Tracker, the most-searched aluminum brand, also builds Sun Tracker pontoons, which although outside the top 10, ranks highly, along with Bennington. Notably the No. 2 brand, Lowe, is built in the same state as Tracker — Missouri. And building aluminum craft in a Midwest state starting with the letter M is apparently a good idea. Minnesota builders Lund, Crestliner and Alumacraft round out the top five.
