Jim Roos joined the Annapolis sales office of Kadey-Krogen Yachts.
Roos began his waterborne career with a swimming scholarship at the University of Florida and, upon graduation, he became one of the assistant coaches there. He eventually moved to South Florida and established a competitive swim center.
In the late 1970s, a marina property development opportunity took him to Newport, R.I. He then established a sailboat race in Goat Island; the race came to be known as the BOC Challenge, a single-handed race around the world. When the race became fully managed by the BOC, Roos moved back to Florida and began a career in sales.
Roos has more than 11 years of marine sales experience, including customer service manager for a large fish boat manufacturer, regional sales manager for another powerboat manufacturer, and general manager of a Florida marina and New England marine focused land development project. He moved to Annapolis 17 years ago. In his previous sales positions, Roos helped organize owner rendezvous and special events.
"Jim's enthusiasm for boating as well as his diverse knowledge of powerboats and boater demographics makes him a valuable asset to our Annapolis team and to the Kadey-Krogen crew," said Larry Polster, vice president of Kadey-Krogen Yachts, in a statement.
Denison Yacht Sales, a full-service yacht brokerage and charter firm with locations in Fort Lauderdale and Marina del Rey, Calif., added Ned Bruck to the Fort Lauderdale office as a broker.
Bruck has extensive experience in yacht sales, most recently with Reel Deal Yachts in Miami Beach. Prior to that, he was with Allied Marine in Fort Lauderdale. He started his career selling boats on the Hudson River in New York about 25 years ago, and now specializes in sportfisher and motoryacht sales in the 50- to 150-foot range.
"Ned adds valuable experience and depth to our team," said Bob Denison, president of Denison Yacht Sales, in a statement. "He has a keen understanding of the industry, a fine reputation and he's tuned in to the customer base that is our target market. He's also been through the up and down cycles of our industry and brings a valuable perspective from that standpoint."
Bruck earned his business degree from the University of Tampa, and has completed professional development programs at Tiara, Bertram, Ferretti and YachtWorld.

Navico promoted Louis Chemi to chief operating officer for the Americas. He will direct all sales, marketing and operations activities for the B&G, Eagle, Lowrance, Northstar and Simrad brands throughout North, Central and South America.
Bringing more than 14 years of marine industry experience to the position, Chemi was hired by Navico in 2007 to lead its product management organization. He was appointed executive vice president of sales and marketing for the Americas in September 2008.
Navico says Chemi's record of success in product development, marketing and sales in the industry; his understanding of what is required to bring high-quality products to the marine market; and his passion for customer service make him the ideal person to adopt the COO role.
Prior to joining Navico, Chemi spent seven years as global product manager with Raymarine. He holds a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Old Dominion University and a Master of Science in applied marine physics from the University of Miami. He carries a 100-ton US Coast Guard Master's license, and is an avid fisherman and boater.

Navico has a new leader following the resignation of president and CEO Jens-Thomas Pietralla, who is joining the company's board as a non-executive director.
The marine electronics manufacturer selected Leif Ottosson as its new CEO. He will combine that role with his existing post as executive vice president and chief operating officer for the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.
Pietralla joined Navico in September 2006 as CEO-elect and took over for Darrell Lowrance in January 2007. During that time, he oversaw the integration of three marine electronics companies with seven brands based in 12 countries into one Navico house of brands.
Navico says the last step in simplifying its structure is the merger of the EMEA region management with the Navico Group leadership. This involves shifting from strategic transformation to efficient execution, and the company says Ottosson is well-qualified to lead Navico through the coming years.
Ottosson holds a bachelor's degree (magna cum laude) in finance and mathematics from Northern Arizona University and an MBA from Harvard.
For 12 years prior to joining Navico, Ottosson worked as an entrepreneur and successfully built three companies in manufacturing, software and consulting. Before that, he was a board member and the chief financial officer of a large U.K.-based metals-and-minerals company and the head of finance of Skanska, a global construction company.
"Despite the tough market conditions I foresee a bright future ahead for Navico and every month passing by is one month closer to a market rebound," Ottosson said in a statement.
He will be based in Dordrecht in the Netherlands.

Jenny Chiles joined Northrop and Johnson Luxury Collection's Fort Lauderdale office.
Chiles, a native of Oklahoma, has more than 17 years of industry experience.
Prior to joining Northrop and Johnson, she spent 12 years serving as office manager and sales assistant at Fraser Yachts.

Smartplug Systems named Greg Duncan its vice president of operations.
Duncan will oversee the daily operations of the company and assist with business development and project management in areas such as research and development, manufacturing, and shipping and receiving.
With more than 20 years of experience in the marine industry, Duncan comes to Smartplug from AFI, a division of Marinco. He held multiple positions there, including regional sales manager, vendor manager and marketing/product manager.
Seattle-based Smartplug Systems recently introduced what it says is the first safe and easy-to-use alternative to the current shorepower standard in 70 years.
