If you sell fishing boats of any size and style and you’ve never taken time to look over www.takemefishing.org, you haven’t seen one of the most comprehensive consumer campaigns that directly supports our industry and offers dealers great content.

The Take Me Fishing website (also in Spanish at http://vamosapescar.org/) was created by the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation. Its single-minded goal is to increase boating and fishing and the conservation of our waterways nationwide. A major part of this effort is the website that includes wide-ranging articles and links to virtually everything one might want to learn about getting out and experiencing boating and angling. Go to it and be impressed.

While you’re there, sign up for the monthly newsletter Newswaves. You’ll see it’s a publication you can recommend to customers and prospects alike. Its content is always “selling” the excitement of boating and fishing. This month, for example, there are great articles like: “Five Easy Ways to Find the Boat of Your Dreams,” or “Keep Calm and Hit The Water” that zeroes in on how being on the water is a statistically-proven prescription for decompressing.

More for dealers

Consumer engagement is just the one major facet. The RBFF also works directly with agencies in every state to successfully help recruit, retain and reactivate lapsed boaters and anglers.

In addition, the RBFF heavily engages with the industry via primary and secondary research studies to reveal the changing demographics of the sport, new markets and, very importantly, customer trends. Moreover, all dealers can get these reports for free at www.takemefishing.org/corporate/resource-center.

While the RBFF also directly supports our national Discover Boating campaign, of particular note today are the other tools and excellent marketing materials that the RBFF makes available to help every dealer be more successful.

For example, how about free embeddable interactive maps for your website of places in your area to boat and fish. They make it easy for boaters and anglers to find waterways, fish species and destinations like camp sites, restaurants, picnic areas and more.

In addition, a great deal of common boating and fishing information is available in professionally-produced, embeddable videos in both English and Spanish. Or you can utilize some customizable public-service announcements extolling the joys of boating and fishing.

Not good at writing blogs, but would like to have blogging in your marketing mix to customers? No problem. Check out and share the “Take Me Fishing” blogs written by experts in the boating and fishing fields. Or, if using social media is in your mix, you can follow, repost and engage with your customers with the help of the RBFF, Take Me Fishing and Vamos A Pescar social media channels.

Finally, the use of infographics is becoming quite the rage these days. Using infographics can help you present statistics and content to positively impact your customers with the RBFF's infographics and sharables.

Funded through the Sport Fish Restoration and Boating Safety Fund as well as corporate contributions, the RBFF offers others great materials, too, such as event planning, educational programs, webinars and workshops. Did I mention everything is available free for dealers?

Since experts agree that continually changing and updating your website and offerings is the key to today’s successful digital marketing, the RBFF offers great content — and the price is right.
