Brewer Yacht Yard completes deal for Connecticut marina

Publish date:

The Brewer Yacht Yard Group today announced the acquisition of Essex Island Marina in Essex, Conn.

Brewer made the winning bid of $3.15 million for the 125-slip marina, which sits on a 13.2-acre private island adjacent to its Brewer Dauntless Shipyard & Marina, at a public auction last month.

The newly named Brewer Essex Island Marina joins the company’s 23 other full-service marina and boatyard locations between Maryland and Maine.

“We are delighted to welcome our long-term Essex neighbor as the newest Brewer facility,” Brewer Yacht Yard Group president Rives Potts said in a statement. “This beautiful and unique property will be a wonderful addition not only to our current Essex operation, but for all who enjoy visiting Brewer locations. We envision lots of terrific rendezvous events and activities to be held here and are excited about the possibilities this location offers.”

The marina began in 1955 as a boatyard with a few slips, but soon developed into a location known for its amenities and services. The island is accessed by a ferry operated by the marina and nestles close to shore and along the lower Connecticut River.

In addition to the 125 slips in the marina, a pool, restaurant, lounges and other offerings, the island has indoor storage and full-service capabilities, including a 30-ton Travelift.

And the Wait for New Boats Goes On

Ninety-five percent of marine dealers say they waited at least a month to get new-boat orders filled in August, and 35 percent say they experienced lead times of more than three months.

Consumer confidence at record highs

The economic indicator that Navico CEO Leif Ottosson watches first and foremost is consumer confidence, and The Conference Board’s measure of the American consumer’s mood delivered good news to Navico and the rest of the recreational marine industry at the end of August.
