Our weekly roundup of dealers and distributors includes news from Wilde Yacht Sales, SeaWide Distribution, Atlantic Marketing Company, Mercury Marine, Pow'rTran and Monterey Boats.

Wilde Yacht Sales recently expanded its lineup to include Ranger Tugs.

Wilde has long been the exclusive Nordic Tug dealer for much of the Northeast and Canada. The Essex, Conn.-based dealership now offers Ranger 21, 25 and 29 models.

"Ranger Tugs represents a new experience in modern boating," said the dealership in announcing its new line.

Ranger Tugs' smaller size allow owners to trailer the 21- and 25-foot models without a permit and the 29-footer with a permit. The vessel is seaworthy and maneuverable while still being fuel-efficient, according to Wilde.

Buyers who pre-order by Dec. 15 will receive a $15,000 rebate on the Ranger 29 model, $7,500 back on the R25 or $3,500 on the R21.

SeaWide Distribution recently announced Kevin Wedin, of MarineMax in San Diego, was the winner of its Raymarine Sportfishing Sweepstakes, which included an all-expenses-paid trip for two to Miami Beach.

The prize included a three-night stay at the Leows Miami Beach Hotel, airfare, $500 spending money and a chance to win $50,000 with a game of chance. Wedin took his trip during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, and was able to spend a day on the water with two-time world billfish champion Ray Rosher.

"The trip exceeded my expectations and it was a real treat to fish with Ray Rosher - a very memorable experience," Wedin said.

MarineMax was one of 415 companies that participated in SeaWide's most recent sweepstakes.

At many of the annual marine distributor shows this fall, Atlantic Marketing Company has been offering dealers an opportunity to jump-start aftermarket equipment and accessory sales.

Atlantic has packaged essential boating gear - replacement props, manual pumps, fire extinguishers, fenders and dock lines, for example - from the product lines it represents into custom Dealer Store Packs.

"Each Dealer Store Pack is customized for participating dealers with products according to what we learn about their customer base. We mix and match appropriate products from the lines of over 20 of the leading manufacturers we represent," Atlantic Marketing president Brandon Flack said in a statement.

Mercury Marine's online training program called LEARN, which was unveiled last year  to more than 5,000 marine dealers in the United States, has expanded to include hundreds of Mercury, Mariner and MerCruiser dealers in Australia and New Zealand.

Through LEARN, dealers in those counties have access to more than 90 online courses and examinations, ranging from basic marine engine technology to computer diagnostics and even MerCruiser's Axius joystick docking system.

"This format allows us to complement standard online content with information unique to specific countries or regions," said Mercury University's Jim Schegetz in a statement. "Many of the modules are also available in other languages."

Annual training and technician certification has been a Mercury Marine requirement for years and has led to higher customer satisfaction, the company said. To facilitate training, Mercury University was introduced in 1996 to provide dealers access to regularly scheduled classes conducted at various locations around the world.

While Mercury stresses that "hands-on" learning is still important and available through Mercury University, significant amounts of information can be delivered online to students.

Pow'rTran, manufacturer of power steering, jack plates, power tilt and power trim and tilts for small outboard motors, chose Woodard and Company Ltd. to represent the company's product line in Canada.

Four sales offices serve the Canadian marketplace in Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver, with the head office and a warehouse in Toronto.

Distributors and dealers in Canada interested in carrying the Pow'rTran product line should call Woodard and Company Ltd. at (905) 760-0245.

Monterey Boats added nine new dealers to its network.

"Our constantly expanding dealer network is a testament to the quality and desirability of our boat brand," Monterey director of sales Kim Loenichen said in a statement. "Monterey is one of the strongest independent boatbuilders in the industry, and the steady stream of new dealer/partners who join our family demonstrates the increasing demand for our boats across the globe."
