Florida marina gains Clean Marina designation

North Light Marina in Niceville, Fla., was certified as a Clean Marina by the state Department of Environmental Protection.

To earn this designation, North Light implemented environmentally sound measures designed to address critical environmental problems, including sensitive habitat, waste management, storm-water runoff, spill prevention and emergency preparedness.

"We are extremely proud to be recognized by the state of Florida and the Department of Environmental Protection as a Clean Marina," said Joe Winkeler, North Light Marina developer and owner, in a statement. "From the beginning, our vision was to build a modern marina facility that set a higher standard for design and engineering. North Light Marina understands the importance of protecting our natural resources, especially in the wake of the Gulf Coast oil disaster."

The private Clean Marina designation ceremony will be held Oct. 22 at the marina.
