In January, Front Street Shipyard announced an exclusive partnership with Newport, R.I.-based Trefoil Marine to begin the construction of a new line of 30-foot multihull, high-performance catamaran patrol boats.

To support the new semi-production boatbuilding operation, the shipyard recently leased a 15,000-square-foot building in Bucksport, Maine, just miles from the shipyard in Belfast.

Since it opened three years ago, the shipyard has relied on PierVantage to help it manage and grow its service business.

“As we expanded into production boatbuilding, PierVantage for Boat Builders was the clear choice in management software,” Front Street Shipyard president JB Turner said in a statement. “It appears to be the only solution on the market specifically designed for this niche. Not only does PierVantage for Boat Builders help us track every stage of the build process, but it also helps us estimate and acquire materials on time, significantly minimizing our inventory carrying costs.”

PierVantage said the shipyard is part of a growing list of major marine firms that have become subscribers. They include boatbuilders and premier service yards such as Derecktor Shipyards, Lyman Morse Boat Building Co., Gunboat, Marshall Marine, Zimmerman Marine, Pacific Fishermen Shipyard and Electric, Wayfarer Marine and Schooner Creek Boatworks.

“The enhanced project management functionality that our team is currently working on will be an extremely powerful tool for both boatyards and boatbuilders,” CorVant director of operations Mike Frayler said. “As a part of our summer 2014 major release, we are working closely with our current customers to ensure that it meets their needs and many of them have volunteered to be part of the beta rollout.”
