Long Island resident wins classic-boat raffle

John Reinbold, a summer resident of Montauk, N.Y., is the 2013 winner of the annual raffle conducted by the East End Classic Boat Society for the boat constructed at its Community Boat Shop in Amagansett, N.Y.

The Goeller dinghy is the first sailboat the Classic Boat Society has built at its boat shop since the building opened in the fall of 2008 and volunteer members of the society constructed it.

The drawing took place Dec. 7 during a Holiday Open House at the boat shop, the group announced. Reinbold also won a new galvanized trailer for his boat.

Plans are being made to construct next year's raffle sailboat, called the East End Sharpie, which will be modeled after the Cape Cod Oyster Sloop.

The boat shop is managed by the society, a non-profit educational organization dedicated to sustaining the skills and traditions of small wooden boatbuilding and restoration on the East End.

The society conducts programs on small boat design, building and restoration at the boat shop. There are lessons in navigation, lofting, sailor arts, boat repair and maintenance.
