MarineMax Panama City Beach hosts cleanup event Sunday

The event will start at 11 a.m. with boats leaving the marina at noon.

MarineMax Panama City Beach in Florida, in conjunction with the Friends of Shell Island, is asking volunteers to join the MarineMax team at the Treasure Island Marina on Sunday for a cleanup event on Shell Island.

The event will start at 11 a.m. with boats leaving the marina at noon. Cleanup supplies will be provided for each boat. MarineMax will host a lunch on Shell Island for all the volunteers.

“We are all excited to have this opportunity to help restore Shell Island to a more natural state,” MarineMax Panama City Beach general manager Loren Kortum said in a statement. “We are proud to have this opportunity to give back to the community we serve and the beautiful environment we all share.”

The team will meet up on Shell Island at the Captain Anderson dock ruins, just west of the Bama Pier.

The Friends of Shell Island is an advocacy group dedicated to the preservation and restoration of Shell Island. A community-based, non-profit organization, the Friends of Shell Island is made up of area residences, businesses and boat owners working together to effectively protect public access to the island, conserve its resources and solve environmental problems threatening Shell Island.
