MarineMax sponsors Florida billfish tourney

MarineMax Daytona will be the presenting sponsor of the New Smyrna Beach (Fla.) Billfish Tournament, which begins today and continues through Sunday.

The event has expanded to include three tournaments: the New Smyrna Beach Billfish Invitational, the New Smyrna Beach Offshore Challenge and the New Smyrna Beach Backwater Tournament. The billfish and offshore tournaments are qualifying tournaments for the Offshore World Championship.

“The format, with three separate tournaments, provides an opportunity for all fishing enthusiasts to participate,” tournament organizer Capt. John Zeller said in a statement. “In addition to the three on-the-water tournaments, this year we have teamed up with Southern States Fishin’ and Huntin’ Magazine for the free family fishing event hosted by Bert Fish Medical Center that will be held at the park.”

In addition to the tournament fishing there will be a boat show with Boston Whaler, Sailfish, Grady-White, Scout, Sea Ray and Harris Pontoons models on display.

“This year’s event is going to be much more than a fishing tournament,” MarineMax Daytona general manager Kimberly Machnik said. “It will be more like a festival celebrating all that is fishing with something for everyone.”
