MarineMax Panama City Beach will host a free seminar from 9-11 a.m. on Sept. 10 on targeting and landing king mackerel.

The seminar precedes Treasure Island Marina’s 41st annual King Mackerel Tournament, which will be held Sept. 16 and 17.

“Our resident instructor Tom Putnam, owner of Half-Hitch Tackle Stores, will teach the techniques, methodology and proper tackle for catching these powerful game fish,” seminar host Bob Fowler, sales consultant and broker at MarineMax Panama City Beach, said in a statement. “With the king mackerel tournament one week away, this is a perfect opportunity to hone your skills and gain confidence.”

“These popular pelagic predators will have your reels screaming and put up a really good fight,” Fowler said. “Having the proper tackle and knowing how to target and land king mackerel will give you a great advantage.”

The Captain’s Meeting for the tournament will be held at 7 p.m. on Sept. 16. Fishing begins on Sept. 17 at sunrise and the scales close at 6 p.m.

There will be prize money payouts for the top three king mackerel and the top two red snapper, and there is a special prize for the largest wahoo.
