National Marina Day moves to June

June 12 is the new date for National Marina Day.

The decision was made after members of the National Marina Day committee thought it would be better to hold it closer to the start of the boating season and away from the worst heat of the summer. Previously, it was held the second Saturday of August.

"We are very, very excited that 2010 will add another important event to existing June highlights, which already include National Trails Day, National Boating and Fishing Week, the Great American Campout and more," said Derrick Crandall, president of the American Recreation Coalition, which is partnering with National Marina Day.

Marinas across the U.S. will be asked on Saturday, June 12 to celebrate and promote their industry by inviting politicians, civic leaders and the public to their facilities to show the important role marinas play in the nation.

National Marina Day is managed by the Association of Marina Industries.
