New Nautical Coatings wins small-business award

The Small Business Commerce Association gave the 2010 Best of Business Award in the marine paints category to New Nautical Coatings Inc., parent company of Sea Hawk Paints, based in Clearwater, Fla.

The association's awards program recognizes the top 5 percent of small businesses in the country. Using statistical research and consumer feedback, the association identifies companies that have demonstrated what makes small businesses a vital part of the American economy, according to a statement.

New Nautical Coatings was established in 1978, and "is dedicated to bringing only the highest-quality products and customer satisfaction to today's mariner," the company said. It sells products that include antifouling systems, primers, solvents, resins, fiberglass products, tools and accessories.

Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., toured the Tiara Yachts headquarters in Holland, Mich., to meet the workers and learn about the impact of the company on the local economy, as well as the impact of boating on a state and national level.
