West Marine will celebrate the grand opening of its store in San Juan, Puerto Rico — its largest on the island — from Feb. 18-20.

The store is at 135 Ave. Arterial B in front of the Caliseo de Puerto Rico and near the Hato Rey train station stop.

West Marine said the location will be Puerto Rico’s largest outfitter of marine-related gear, apparel and accessories and will be home to thousands of SKUs representing everything from boating- and fishing-related gear and products to stand-up paddling and kayaking gear and accessories.

Opening day activities will include a “parking lot” boat show, food trucks and refreshments, live music and the retailer’s Cruising for a Cause charity night event, which supports local non-profit organizations. It will follow a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5:15 p.m.

Charities that will participate in the evening’s festivities include Pesca, Playa y Ambiente; Caribbean Fishing Academy; SUPAC; Make a Wish Puerto Rico; OPAS; Gogo Foundation; and Red Caribena de Varamiento.

The company said that in addition to store manager Rafa Rodriguez, the San Juan crew consists of 21 associates who have a combined 275-plus years of cruising, fishing, sailing and paddling experience.

“We have a great pool of talent to choose from in this area,” Rodriguez said in a statement. “Our associates are as passionate about life on the water as our customers. They’re here to help with any type of questions, from where to go to find fish that are biting to how to make repairs.”

Port Supply, West Marine’s wholesale arm, also will have a hub at the San Juan location.
