West Marine hands out vendor awards

West Marine recently named its top vendors and is seeking local marine-based charities for a program in conjunction with the opening of a new flagship store in Newport Beach, Calif.

The retailer announced the winners of its annual Very Important Vendor Awards at its Watsonville Support Center.

“West Marine is proud to announce that Navico has been selected as the Vendor of the Year at West Marine’s VIV Awards for 2013,” West Marine executive VP for merchandising and logistics Ron Japinga said in a statement. “Navico and all of the recipients of this year’s awards have demonstrated a commitment to high-quality products, sales growth through enhanced collaborations, innovation and excellent customer service.”

The winners of the 2013 VIV Awards are:

Vendor of the year: Navico

Best sales growth: LEHR propane outboard engines

Best new product: Columbia’s Omni-Freeze Zero

Best supply chain partner: Xylem

Best store sales support: Big Rock Sports

Best omni-channel sales support: Jimmy Styks

Best Port Supply sales support: Mastervolt

Best green product: CFA Eco bottom paint by Kopcoat

Best vendor representative: Greg Winfrey, Derema Group

Separately, West Marine announced a search for Newport Beach marine-based non-profits to be the beneficiaries of a “Cruising for a Cause” charity night set for Oct. 3. The event will take place during the grand opening celebration of West Marine’s flagship store at 3433 Via Lido in Newport Beach.

“In keeping with the company’s mission of conserving marine habitats and supporting local boating non-profits across the country, West Marine is eager to work with Newport Beach-area charities that serve the local boating, fishing, sailing and marine environmental community,” the company said in a statement.

For the $10 ticket, “Cruising for a Cause” attendees will receive food, beverages and entertainment provided by West Marine. Details on how to apply to participate in “Cruising for a Cause” are available by sending an email inquiry to
