West Marine names photo-contest winner

West Marine said Derric Raymond of Kissimmee, Fla., is the winner of its 2014 Deck Out Dad photo contest.

The retailer invited people to post photos through Instagram and Facebook of fathers who they thought deserved a $500 West Marine waterlife makeover.

West Marine said it received hundreds of entries from across the country of fathers fishing, sailing and just enjoying life on or near the water. Photos of the entries can be viewed on the website.

Raymond’s entry included a caption from his 11-year-old son, Remi, that honored Raymond as a dad, but also reflected the boy’s desire to get out on the water.

“I think my dad deserves the makeover because he is the best. He's worked really hard on this boat, and it still needs a lot of work until it runs,” Remi said. “I can't wait to go fishing!"
