West Marine plans grand opening in New Jersey

West Marine will hold a grand opening in July at its expanded store in Somers Point, N.J.

The event will run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on July 13 and 14, and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on July 15 at the Somers Point Plaza store at 258 New Road.

The renovated store, which added 800 square feet and now has 8,000, includes a saltwater fishing assortment selected specifically for area customers. It also carries boating supplies, casual and technical apparel, shoes and accessories.

Store manager Chuck Stuchel is a South Jersey native who has been with West Marine for 15 years. He grew up in a boating family and has personal experience on boats from 17 to 45 feet.

The store will have 14 associates. Charlie O’Connell divides his time between Somers Point and Marathon, Fla., depending on the sailing-friendly weather. Fishing expert John Migliacco has been with West Marine for more than 16 years and has more than 30 years of inshore, coastal and offshore fishing.


Yamaha sponsors Jacksonville show

Yamaha has signed on as the presenting sponsor of the Jacksonville In-Water Boat Show that runs April 13 -15 at Metropolitan Park and Marina in Jacksonville, Fla.

MIASF volunteers collect 32 tons of trash

The Marine Industries Association of South Florida and the Marine Industry Cares Foundation, organizers of the 41st Annual Broward County Waterway Cleanup held on March 3, collected 32 tons of trash from 31 sites around the county.
