West Marine to open flagship store in Florida

West Marine signed a lease on a new flagship store in Sarasota, Fla.

"We're committed to the Sarasota boating and fishing community and look forward to better serving their needs at our new Sarasota flagship store," said Erik Rimblas, West Marine's regional vice president for the Southeast, in a statement "Not only will the store be a great resource for boaters, anglers and sailors, it will also provide approximately 40 new jobs to the Sarasota area."

The new store will be nearly three times the size of the previous location. At more than 21,000 square feet, it will be the largest West Marine in southwest Florida, the company said.

This Sarasota flagship store also will be home to a Port Supply hub. Port Supply is the wholesale division of West Marine and its customers include boatyards, boatbuilders, boat dealers, service shops and charter boats.

Grand-opening events at the new location are scheduled for Dec. 9-12.
