Veterans Memorial Lake in Arkansas City, Kan., was closed yesterday to boating and fishing activities until further notice.

According to, the state’s department of health and environment is testing for a possible algae bloom, but it has not been officially determined. The state calls the closure a precautionary measure.

In August 2017, the lake was temporarily placed under a Public Health Watch by KDHE for a possible blue-green algae development.
