Ladies, Let's Go Fishing Seminars Continue in Pandemic

Ladies (L to R) Manette Freas, Betty Bauman, Jane Brady, Rebecca Lancashire, Denise Mendoza, and Laurie Beals.
Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing University will kick off tonight in Dania Beach, Fla., at the International Game Fish Association, after being postponed from its original April date.
The initial event had been slated for April but was shifted to this weekend after the Covid-19 pandemic took hold.
Another event scheduled for Tampa, Fla., next month was cancelled along with the Tampa Boat Show, LLGF founder Betty Bauman told Trade Only Today.
However, Bauman has successfully pulled off events during the pandemic: in July, a LLGF Gulf Coast University session was held at the Bass Pro Shops in Ft. Myers, Fla.
Studies by RBFF have shown that if a woman fishes, she’ll lead her children and family to it, too.
Since the nonprofit was formed in 1997, 9,000 women have graduated from the program throughout the years, said Bauman in a statement. Women still have the option to register a male guest, as well as teens, to include the whole family.
The “No Yelling School of Fishing” offers classroom presentations, networking, hands-on skill practice and an optional charter fishing trip.
Activities launch Friday evening with an informal meet-and-greet at the IGFA; on Saturday, scheduled presentations on fishing basics by Capt. Lee Lavery, offshore fishing by Jeanne Towne and conservation by Betty Bauman.
Hands-on skill practice follows for techniques including releasing, knot tying, de-hooking, bait rigging, spin casting, fly casting, gaffing grapefruits, cast netting and trailer backing.
On Sunday is an optional charter fishing trip for species including sailfish, mahi mahi, mackerel, tuna, wahoo and snapper, followed by a filet demonstration.
Featured on national network television and news articles, the series is supported by major partners including Recreational Fishing and Boating Foundation, Take Me Fishing, Vamos a Pescar, Mercury Marine, Magic Tilt trailers, Penn, Scout Boats, Seven Seas Yacht Sales, Power-Pole, and Fish Florida.
Annual sponsors include Freedom Boat Club, Sunrise Resort & Marina, Future Angler Foundation, CCA Florida Star, Taco Marine, Seaguar and Big Rock Sports Foundation. Local sponsors include IGFA and HMY Yacht Sales.
