Sunrise Marine is offering free women’s boating classes in its effort to make women comfortable operating boats independently.

The Women Making Waves classes will occur every second Saturday at its Daphne, Ala., location and every third Saturday at the Mary Esther, Fla., location.

Jerri Coomes, one of the company’s experienced, certified (and female) mechanics and delivery Capt. Kent Moore, will teach women skills including docking, approach and departure, launch and retrieval, basic navigation and operation.

“We hear daily how women do not feel confident operating their boat, and how they want to learn,” said Sunrise Marine marketing manager Peggy King in a statement. “Who better to teach them than us? It doesn’t hurt that we have so many wonderful experienced ladies on our Sunrise Marine team either.”

RSVP is required for all classes.
