3M and Gurit signed a mutual commercialization and supply agreement that allows Gurit to purchase 3M Matrix Resin for use in high-performance marine applications.

SP-High Modulus, the marine business of Gurit, will use the matrix resin in its market-leading composites, which are currently used in the world's top performance boats.

"Gurit is one of the world's leading developers and manufacturers of composite materials for the high-performance marine market and 3M is excited about the opportunity to collaborate with Gurit to bring this innovative technology to new markets," said Vic Genco, general manager for the 3M engineered products and materials department, in a statement.

3M Matrix Resin, a proprietary resin technology, enables the production of stronger, lighter, more durable composites, the company said.

SP-High Modulus' first new product utilizing the resin is a high-performance prepreg that shows a considerable increase in compressive strength from the company's comparable prepreg, according to the release.

The product will debut March 29-31 at the JEC Composites Show in Paris.
