ABYC, IBEX To Host Student Career Day

The American Boat & Yacht Council Foundation yesterday announced a partnership with the International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition and Conference to host more than 70 Florida students with interest in the marine trades at this year’s show.

The itinerary for the inaugural Student Career Day, Sept. 29, includes a morning of seminars, lunch with sponsors and an afternoon tour of the exhibit floor, according to a statement. Students will be accompanied by ABYC Foundation executive director Margaret Podlich and Marine Trades Association of Maryland president Lia Maddox.

“The ABYC Foundation is dedicated to connecting future marine technicians with the industry,” Podlich said in the statement. “We look forward to introducing them to the IBEX experience of continuing education, new innovations and show networking.”

Seminars the students can attend include:

• “Work Boots on the Boat”

• “Customer Care in the Service Yard”

•“Science of Composites: Understand ‘Why’ Rather Than Simply ‘How’ ”

• “The Battle Has Begun: AC Generators vs. AC Inverters and Storage Batteries”

Sponsors of Student Career Day include Faria Beede Instruments, Jabsco/Xylem, Magic Tilt, Syntec, Transhield and Yamaha Motor Corp.

IBEX runs Sept. 27-29 at Tampa Convention Center in Florida.
