Active Interest Media names new editor-in-chief for Soundings Trade Only

Active Interest Media named Michael Verdon editor-in-chief for Soundings Trade Only. Verdon has been writing about boats and the recreational marine industry since 1990.

Verdon has been on the editorial staffs of Motor Boating & Sailing, Boating Industry and Boating World magazines. For the last 20 years, he has been U.S. editor for International Boat Industry magazine. He has also been a regular contributor to Yachting and Robb Report magazines.

“I’ve been a big fan of Soundings Trade Only since I started in the industry in 1990,” said Verdon, a past president and longtime board member of Boating Writers International (BWI). “It manages to combine news and useful industry information in a format that is engaging and accessible.

“But the reason I’m really excited about this opportunity is that I’ll be working with one of the strongest and most dedicated edit staffs in the industry,” he added. “I’ve competed with these folks for the last 20 years, so I’m looking forward to now working together as a team.”

“We’re very excited to have Michael join the Trade Only team and continue its legacy of timely, comprehensive news coverage,” said Gary DeSanctis, group publisher and general manager of the AIM Marine Group. “His understanding of the global marine markets will be a real asset.”

Michael replaces editor-in-chief Bill Sisson, who was recently promoted to vice president and editorial director of the seven magazines in AIM’s Marine Group.

“Michael is going to be a perfect fit for Trade Only,” said Sisson, who is also editor-in-chief of Anglers Journal. “His knowledge of the industry, including the international markets, makes him uniquely qualified for the position. I look forward to working with Michael to strengthen and expand the reach of the brand.”

Trade Only publisher Michele Goldsmith said she is excited to be working with Verdon. “Michael brings an immense talent, integrity, respect and broad knowledge of the global marine industry with him to Soundings Trade Only,” Goldsmith said.

Verdon has won multiple awards for his industry reporting, as well as outside awards for writing about boats. Last year, he was the recipient of a Boating Pioneers award in the Foreign Journalists category, which was handed out by UCINA, Italy’s national boating association.

Verdon will officially begin his position with Soundings Trade Only at the NMMA’s American Boating Congress, which runs May 9-11.
