The Active Interest Media Marine Group announced that Heather Courtney, of Annapolis, Md., joined the Soundings magazine and SoundingsOnline.com advertising sales team.

Formerly with Chesapeake Bay magazine, Courtney comes to Soundings Publications with more than 10 years of general advertising and marine endemic ad sales experience.

Having developed strong relationships within the greater Chesapeake Bay region, Courtney brings a broad-based knowledge of the powerboat and sailboat markets in the Mid-Atlantic states, including New Jersey. She will be based in Annapolis.

“We are very fortunate to bring aboard a seasoned ad sales representative to help strengthen us in the Mid-Atlantic region,” Soundings associate publisher Sean O’Leary said in a statement.

“Another big plus,” he added, “is Heather’s years of sailing experience, both in racing and cruising, and a powerboat pedigree from cruising Chesapeake waters with her father as a kid.”

Soundings is one of the leading marine publications on the East Coast, particularly in the Northeast, with a large paid-circulation base of readers from New Jersey through New England.

“The Carolinas, Virginia and Maryland are a natural fit for the type of content Soundings publishes, and we see a big opportunity in this market,” O’Leary said. “With a strong readership already in place in the tri-state area and New England, we’re taking steps to further grow our readership in these states to the south, and Heather Courtney will be the difference maker.”
