The Clearwater Economic Development Association announced the creation of a boat export program in the Western United States.

CEDA, through a grant from USDA Rural Development, recently launched the Snake River Boat Builders Export Program with eight builders and one supplier from the Lewis-Clark Valley region of Idaho and Washington.

"This program should provide a tremendous boost to our local economy," CEDA executive director Christine Frei said in a statement.

Participants include Bentz Boats, Custom Weld Boats, Gateway Trailers, Hells Canyon Marine, Phantom Jet Boats, Renaissance Marine Group, SJX Jet Boats, Riddle Marine and Thunder Jet.

The program began earlier this month when boating industry experts from Germany visited the region. Training will take place this fall on various aspects of exporting, especially to the European Union.

In November, a number of European dealers interested in representing the lines are expected to visit the region, and in January the companies will showcase their boats at the Boot Düsseldorf show.
