Sales of all fiberglass boats, including personal watercraft, fell 5.5 percent, to 45,982 boats, during the second quarter, but sales were only slightly lower in the core 14- to 30-foot segment of the market. Sales in that category fell 0.4 percent, to 23,147 boats.

Sales of fiberglass boats 14 feet and larger fell 0.2 percent, to 24,642 boats; sales of fiberglass boats larger than 30 feet were flat at 1,622 boats. Sales in the PWC market were sharply lower, falling 11.6 percent, to 16,518 units.

The sales information is year over year and based on registration data from 47 states, or 98 percent of the U.S. boat market. Reports of sales of documented vessels were incomplete in the data because of entry delays at the Coast Guard.

After a significant increase last year, jet boat sales fell 4.5 percent, to 1,499 units. Deck boat sales were up 0.2 percent, to 1,878 units, and ski boat sales dropped 0.8 percent, to 2,224 units.
