A sailing convention for women, sponsored by Boat U.S., is set to launch Feb. 6 at the Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club in Corona del Mar, Calf. The event is presented by the Southern California Yachting Association.

The convention is open to all women, from novices to experts, and the program offers 28 workshops to choose from, including Welcome Aboard (for beginners), Suddenly Single-handed, Sail Trim, Cruising Preparedness, Provisioning, Racing Intro, Diesels, Basic Navigation, Anchoring, Spinnaker Rigging, First Aid and Going Offshore.

"This is the event for women to learn and ask every question they have always wanted an answer to," said Gail Hine, the event's organizer, in a statement. "It's a no-pressure learning environment and a great chance to pick up new skills and network with other women boaters."

Capt. Patty Garfield, who holds a 100-ton license in addition to having achieved success in the yacht brokerage business, will be the guest speaker.
