BWI schedules Fort Lauderdale meeting

Boating Writers International will hold its general meeting from 8 to 10 a.m. Oct. 31 at the Bahia Mar Hotel during the upcoming Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

BWI’s “Newsmaker” session is titled “Expanding the Boating Universe Beyond Middle-aged Males.” It will examine changing U.S. markets with a panel discussion about how to write about and promote recreational boating to Hispanics, blacks and women.

During the meeting, BWI will present the West Marine Writer’s Award and its $5,000 prize, plus details about its annual writing contest.

The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (Oct. 30-Nov. 3) is hosting the award presentation and Newsmaker event. Both are open to the marine community.
