Situated along the Oakland/Alameda estuary, Jack London Square is Oakland, California’s only publicly accessible mixed-use waterfront area.
Accessible from San Francisco Bay, the free public docks are behind Scott’s Seafood Restaurant and just south of the Waterfront Hotel.
The area is making an effort to use the public docks to attract boaters to its growing restaurant and entertainment scene. Boaters can dock and fuel up at Almar Marina, where gas, diesel and ice are available.
The area also offers on-land to in-water activities, including bike rentals from Bay Area Bikes; kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding from California Canoe & Kayak; a children’s playground; tours of the historic presidential yacht USS Potomac; and yacht charter for sails on the Bay.
For visitors who want to venture farther into Oakland, the Free B shuttle provides free transportation throughout the city. San Francisco is a short ferry ride away.
The region is also touting events such as Strictly Sail Pacific, which is being held this weekend in Jack London Square. It will continue through Sunday.
