Changing places

ASA Electronics, an Elkhart, Ind.-based manufacturer of mobile audio and video equipment, hired Aaron Irions as its new product/business development manager. Irions will develop and investigate new business opportunities within, as well as outside, normal business channels. His job responsibilities also will include researching competition and coordinating with ASA engineering on proposed product design and cost.

Irions began his career at ASA Electronics, working in various positions before serving in the U.S. Army. Prior to his most recent hiring at ASA, Irions was employed at Gulf Stream Coach as a purchasing agent. He is pursuing a degree in business administration at Indiana University-South Bend.

Textron Financial Corp. of Providence, R.I., named Jon Fliss executive vice president of human resources, effective June 16. Fliss succeeds Rob Powers, who recently joined Textron Systems as senior vice president of human resources.

Fliss will oversee human resources for Textron Financial and many of Textron’s corporate functions, focusing on organization design, compensation, recruitment, orientation, training, performance management, and diversity. He will report to Jay Carter, Textron Financial’s president and chief operating officer, and will be a member of the company’s management and executive committees.

"Through experience that spans both the public and government sectors, he has consistently led effective teams by setting human resources strategy and building upon solid foundations to better address the business as a whole,” said Carter in a statement.

Fliss joined Textron in 2003, serving as director of executive compensation and executive benefits, where he was responsible for Textron’s executive compensation program. He established the company’s Rewards Center of Excellence to provide Textron’s first enterprise capability for broad-based compensation design and administration. He also formalized Textron’s compensation benchmarking practices to the benefit of employees at all compensation levels.

Prior to Textron, Fliss served in human resources and strategy roles at Sears, Roebuck & Co. He also was a captain in the U.S. Army. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and an MBA from Northwestern University. Fliss also completed Textron’s Executive Leadership Program at the Thunderbird School for Global Management.

WoodenBoat Publications of Brooklin, Maine, appointed Todd Richardson as the new advertising director for WoodenBoat and Professional BoatBuilder magazines and ProBoat Events Online.

Richardson will manage the print and online sales activities of five advertising sales representatives throughout the United States, as well as have direct responsibility for advertising sales internationally, in the Midwestern states (WoodenBoat) and in the Northwestern states (Professional BoatBuilder).

Richardson has 28 years sales and marketing management experience. Prior to beginning his career with WoodenBoat, he worked for Schering Plough Corp. and Gould Paper New York, where he implemented a national purchasing and cost reduction programs for Mercedes Benz, Unilever, Donna Karan Fashions, Polo and Nautica. He also was the North American national manufacturing representative for paper manufacturers International Paper and Potlatch Corp.

“I’ve been a wooden boat owner and an avid WoodenBoat magazine reader for years, and I believe in the value of the magazines,” Richardson said in a statement. “I want to help our advertisers increase their sales potential in both the marine consumer and trade segments of the market.”
