Changing Places


Atlantic Marine of Wrightsville Beach, N.C., recently hired Tom Harris as sales manager for the 33-year-old family owned-and-operated marine dealership.

Harris was previously general manager of Morehead Marine in Morehead City, N.C., since 1998 and brings 11 years of experience to Atlantic Marine.

Allen Pennington is now parts manager for the marine's parts and service department after serving as parts manager for Crocker's Marine in Wilmington, N.C., since 1994. He has a total of 43 years of experience in the marine industry.

The marina also promoted Richard Lane to the position of parts and service director after serving as service manager since 1994. Lane and his department have received numerous awards through the years including Yamaha Five Star service status.

Samson Rope Technologies of Ferndale, Wash., which specializes in rope and cordage, announced a number of organizational changes.

Michael Quinn was promoted to director of sales for Samson's industrial division, taking on the role after an 18-month tenure by Terry Crump, who served in this role in addition to being director of sales for the Americas in the company's marine division.

Quinn started as a customer service manager in 2007 and in 2008 began managing the recreational sales division. Prior to joining Samson, Quinn held management roles in wire manufacturing as well as regional and corporate sales manager positions. He will be based in the corporate headquarters in Ferndale, Wash.

Dennis Sherman was promoted to director of sales for the offshore division of Samson after serving 15 years as part of the sales team. Sherman has played an important role in developing the company's offshore business model and has an extensive technical background in synthetic rope applications. Most recently, Sherman focused on the company's international tug business and growing the mooring business as well. He will continue working from his regional office in Statham, Ga.

Robin Collett was promoted to general sales manager for the European and Middle Eastern commercial marine customers for Samson after working for the company for the last four years. He has a total of 27 years experience in the rope industry.

Collett will be working with Giles Tennick, who was recently hired as sales engineer for Samson after retiring from the British army with nine years experience as a maintenance engineering manager. Tennick will provide sales and engineering support to Collett's customers and will work out of his home-based office in Chesterfield, England, while Collett will work out of the regional office in East Sussex, England.
