Changing Places

Terry Tjaden, show manager for the Southern California Marine Association for the last 23 years, will retire from the marine industry effective June 30, the association announced.

"I have countless things to be thankful for, especially the many dear friends that I have made during my career," said Tjaden. "The boating business has been my life for nearly 40 years and it has been a rewarding and enriching experience. I take with me a lot of priceless memories that I will cherish always."

Tjaden began his boating industry career in 1971 as a regional sales rep for Mercury Marine. He joined the SCMA as show manager in December 1986. In 2007, Tjaden was presented with the association's highest honor, the lifetime achievement award.

"Terry is a unique and very special kind of person.  He has the patience of Job and a rare talent for connecting on a personal level with people he does business with," SCMA executive director Dave Geoffroy said in a statement. "I've been in the marine industry for a very long time and, without question, there's no better boat show manager in this business. While we'll miss his knowledge, insight and flawless work ethic greatly, his retirement is truly well deserved."

Tjaden say he and his wife Gina plan to relocate to Bend, Ore., early this summer.
