Coast Guard inspecting Florida draw bridges for increased closures

Congressman Brian Mast (FL-18) recently requested that the U.S. Coast Guard conduct a navigation feasibility survey for the St. Lucie and Loxahatchee Railroad Bridges in Florida. The results would help the Coast Guard understand how boaters use the waterways and the impact that extended rail service and bridge closures could have on the boating community.

NMMA members can complete the survey here and the deadline to do so is February 1.

Plans for a new passenger rail service in Florida called All Aboard Florida/Bightline, could change how drawbridge openings occur on Florida’s Treasure Coast, possibly making them more frequent. The NMMA is encouraging feedback to ensure that officials understand the impact of expanded rail service on the boating community in the Sunshine State. Trains that run hourly every day will require additional bridge closings on waterways used by boaters.
