Peer-to-peer boat rental company Cruzin introduced a Captains Program, which allows owners to rent boats while staying aboard to help renters learn the ropes.

The program allows people to list their vessels with Cruzin in a way that best fits their circumstances and preferences. It's also an opportunity for people who are looking to rent a boat, but don’t feel comfortable captaining it alone.

Coast Guard-licensed owners can take a renter out on the water and charge extra if they choose. The program also can benefit veteran boaters who want to rent a boat, but are short on crew, unfamiliar with local conditions or want to try a different style or size of vessel.

Rentals through Cruzin's Captains Program require the owner to be on board and a Coast Guard 6-Pack licensed captain. Online and in-person courses for the certification are available and should pose little challenge for experienced boaters, the company said.
