Thirty-nine of the 115 products that were entered in the DAME Design Award METS competition were nominated for final judging.

The DAME jury will choose a maximum of seven category winners and one overall winner. The awards will be announced at a breakfast briefing at 8 a.m. on Nov. 13 prior to the start of the Marine Equipment Trade Show. The 25th anniversary edition of METS will be held Nov. 13-15 in Amsterdam.

The successful nominations this year came from 13 nations. All of the short-listed products will be put on display during METS in a special DAME presentation in the RAI Elicium.

The short-listed products are divided into seven categories: marine electronics and related software; interior equipment, furnishings, materials, and electrical fittings used in cabins; marina equipment, boatyard equipment and boat construction tools and materials; deck equipment, sails, and rigging; clothing and crew accessories; lifesaving and safety equipment; and machinery, propulsion, mechanical and electrical systems and fittings.

“The excellent quality of the 2012 DAME Design Award entry list is clear evidence that the marine industry is continuing to invest confidently in a broad range of innovative and well-designed new products, despite the difficult economic climate,” Bill Dixon, chairman of the DAME Award jury, said in a statement.

“And, as always, it has been very difficult for the DAME jury judges to reduce such an impressive number of excellent entries down to a list of just 39 nominations. We were particularly pleased that all seven categories were very well represented — especially in the important areas of deck equipment, rigging, safety and navigational software.”
