Nominations for the BoatU.S. Foundation's Environmental Leadership Award are due Dec. 15.

The honor singles out people, organizations or businesses that have made significant contributions to help other boaters become more environmentally responsible on the water.

A $1,000 award to help continue their environmental efforts is included.

"We want to know who is behind your local river cleanup, who at your marina is teaching boaters on how they can keep their lake clean or who is solving an environmentally challenging aspect of boating," said Susan Shingledecker, director of environmental programs for the BoatU.S. Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water, in a statement.
