Facebook has led to an explosion of photo posts and people always love sharing on-the-water pictures. Soon a new app on Discover Boating's Facebook page will allow fans to pick five of their boating photos, select a soundtrack and create a short video about the experience.

The app, called MovieMaker, should be available around Memorial Day, said Carl Blackwell, who is in charge of social media for Discover Boating.

“We hope they share that with their friends and, if they share it with Discover Boating, they’ve also shared it with a bunch of other people,” Blackwell said. “The more shares, the more organic growth we get.”

Marine dealers and manufacturers will be able to add the app to their Facebook page and download it to put on their website, Blackwell said.

Boaters can share their movies on their Facebook page, as well as with people who aren’t on Facebook, Blackwell said.

“I mean, I couldn’t buy that kind of media,” Blackwell said.
