Fort Myers, Fla.-based Wilson Yacht Sales Inc. has merged with Pier One Yacht Sales.
Pier One Yacht Sales owners Len Garofoli and Tony Mondello said Wilson Yacht Sales, located at Edison Ford Marina, was the fourth firm to join Pier One in two years.
Wilson Yacht Sales was founded in 1984 by Capt. Ed Wilson, who turned it into a leading Florida brokerage firm.
“The passing of Ed back in 2013 was a major loss to our industry,” Garofoli said in a statement. “His wealth of knowledge, his expertise in working with people always made him a pleasure to work with. He is missed by a lot of people.”
“This is a win-win situation with benefits,” said Renee Wilson, Ed’s wife, who worked side by side with him for many years. “With the collective knowledge and experience of all parties involved and the worldwide exposure of Pier One Yacht Sales, this is one merger where the most important part will be for our clients. They are the ones who will benefit the most.”
The group will not close the office at Edison Ford Marina, Renee Wilson said. “If anything, we will be expanding its impact. This gives both Wilson Yacht Sales clients and Pier One clients who are from Cape Coral, Fort Myers and farther south a closer office while still getting all the benefits of Pier One’s four other locations.”
The Fort Myers office will be called Pier One Yacht Sales at Edison Ford Marina.
Pier One Yacht Sales has four locations, Cape Harbour Marina, Burnt Store Marina, Cape Haze Plaza and its main office at Fishermen’s Village in Punta Gorda.
Pier One was founded by Garofoli, former vice president of Navigator Yachts Inc., in the fall of 2004. Pier One Yacht started as a dealer for Navigator Yachts, Californian Yachts and Legacy yachts. Garofoli expanded the brokerage part of the firm when he moved from Gasparilla Marina to Fishermen’s Village in 2006.
In October of 2011, Garofoli brought in Mondello, former vice president of IBM, as a full partner.
The merger makes Pier One Yacht Sales one of the largest brokerage firms between Charlotte and Lee counties. It offers five fully staffed offices and a total of 29 brokers serving southwest Florida.
“Any firm in Florida would have jumped at the chance to work with Renee and her team,” Garofoli said, “All I can say is that I am honored that she is now on our team.”
