Former MRAA director remembered

Tandy Counce, former director of the Marine Retailers Association of America and the owner of Counce Marine in Memphis, Tenn., passed away Jan. 2 at his home in Germantown, Tenn. He was 79.

Counce had owned and operated Counce Marine since 1962. He served several terms on the board of the retailers association, was the first president of the Memphis Boat Show, was a member of the Tennessee Marine Dealers Association and the Boat Dealers Alliance, and served on advisory boards and councils for boat and engine manufacturers.

"Tandy will always be remembered for his open and direct observations on the boating industry, especially where it concerned dealers," MRAA president Phil Keeter said in a statement. "He was a true Southern gentleman and a real asset to recreational boating, and will definitely be missed."

Counce is survived by his wife, Sue; two sons, Michael and Eric; three grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Counce was a member of Colonial Park United Methodist Church.

Services will be held today at Memphis Funeral Home.

The family requests that memorials be sent to the Colonial Park UMC or the Alzheimer's Association: 326 Ellsworth St., Memphis, Tenn. 38111.
