Don Galey of Galey's Marine Supply was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award earlier this month by the Southern California Marine Association during the organization's board of directors meeting.

"Don Galey exemplifies the very best in the business of marine retailing," said Phil Keeter, president of the Marine Retailers Association of America, in presenting the award.

"Don is a genuine gentleman who conducts himself and his business like a true professional," Keeter continued. "When there's a job to be done, Don is always the first to step forward and unselfishly volunteer his time and expertise to make it happen."

Galey's Marine Supply was founded in Bakersfield, Calif., more than 71 years ago by Galey's father, Otto. Don Galey has been active in the marine industry for the last several decades. He was one of the founding members of MRAA in 1971, and more recently became one of the first marine retailers in the country to apply for and become an NMMA-certified dealer of Grow Boating.

He also served as president of the SCMA for the last two years and was re-elected last month to serve another three-year term as a board member. In 2000, Boat and Motor Dealer magazine named Galey's Marine as Dealer of the Year.

In other business, the SCMA board of directors elected a new slate of officers for the 2009-10 term. The new officers are president, Bruce Brown of Bruce Brown & Associates; vice president, Richard Tressler of Essex Credit Corp.; secretary, Dan Klaas of Hipp Marine and treasurer, Jeff Jones of Brunswick/Mercury Marine.
