Global Marine Insurance Agency marks 20 years

Michigan-based Global Marine Insurance Agency is celebrating 20 years of business.

The company was founded in 1989 as a division of the former Guyot, Hicks, Anderson Insurance Agency by Mike Smith and Pam Stanley. Today, along with current partners Matt Anderson and Bill Anderson, the company has grown into one of the largest independent marine specialty agencies in the country.

"To now count more than 20,000 boaters as clients, is a real privilege; it's a tribute to the hard work and dedication of our employees that we have been able to continue to build the business," president Mike Smith said in a statement. "We are also very proud to have some of the same clients we had in 1989, just with different boats."

Global Marine Insurance Agency is based in Traverse City, Mich., and employs 38 marine insurance professionals. The agency specializes in selling marine insurance-related products in all of the lower 48 states and Alaska.

The policies range from insurance on personal watercraft and boats to megayachts of 150 feet and larger. The company also sells commercial marine insurance for marinas, dealers, casino boats, rental fleets, excursion vessels, private ski lakes and other related products.
