For the third year in a row, Gowrie Group of Westbrook, Conn., was named to a national list of the Top 100 privately-held property/casualty agencies.

The firm also was ranked as the top agency in Connecticut for the second year, and was among the 45 companies on the list that actually grew its business, year over year, despite the economic recession.

"We feel very proud to be named to this national list for three years in a row," said Ed Gumbrecht, chief operating officer of the Gowrie Group, in a statement. "Being No. 1 in Connecticut for the second year really shows that Gowrie is not only a strong player in the nationwide marketplace, but also Connecticut's premier insurance agency."

This nationwide list is calculated and reported by the Insurance Journal, which ranks independent agencies by their total property/casualty premiums.
