Donna Lange is not just a grandmother of 11 — she’s also a musician, songwriter, registered nurse, delivery captain, the founder of OceansWatch North America and one of the few American female sailors to circumnavigate solo.

In 2007 she sailed around the globe and stopped twice along the way. Now she’s planning to again circumnavigate solo on her Southern Cross 28, Inspired Insanity, only this time, she wants to go non-stop.

She’ll leave Bristol, R.I., in July and return next May. Along the way she’ll raise funds for OceansWatch. To fund her trip, Lange is producing a CD and the book “Finding My Way in Song.”

Trade Only sister publication Sail magazine’s Lauren Saalmuller did a Q&A to find out what prompted Lange to become one of the few American women to circumnavigate solo.
