Beneteau's powerboat division is taking the Swift Trawler 34 it introduced to the North American market last year on a road trip of sorts, promoting the boat by taking it port to port on what the builder is calling "The Greatest Loop."

A bon voyage celebration in Annapolis started the 41-leg, 7,000-plus-mile tour around The Great Loop. The recently launched boat, hull 202 in the model line and appropriately named The Greatest Loop, is due in New York today.

Industry members and the public are invited to an open house of the 34 on Friday and Saturday. That event will be held at Surfside 3 Marina at 62 Chelsea Piers. Tours of the boat will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days. Sea trials for potential buyers will be scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. each day.

To attend the free events, RSVP at www.thegreatestloop.com.

Stephen Blakely, a contributing writer for Soundings, was to be aboard The Greatest Loop on its first leg and will file a report on his experiences and observations for Soundings magazine.

The tour will encompass the Hudson River, most of the Great Lakes, the Mississippi River, the Tombigbee River, Florida’s Intracoastal Waterway and then north on the ICW, returning to Annapolis in September.
