Wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will star in “Not Without Hope,” a film based on the best-selling memoir by Tampa, Fla., resident Nick Schuyler, the lone survivor of a 2009 accident that left three of his friends dead in the Gulf of Mexico, according to Variety.

Based on the memoir by Schuyler, the story follows four friends — Schuyler, along with NFL players Marquis Cooper and Corey Smith, and Schuyler’s best friend, Will Bleakley, a former University of South Florida football player — who were on a fishing trip when their 21-foot boat capsized 75 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico, stranding the four men at sea.

In the days that followed, the men fought to survive as they waited to see whether help would come. Johnson will play Schuyler in the movie. Schuyler was the sole survivor. The other three succumbed to hypothermia and died at sea.

Hollywood film studio Relativity Media has acquired the worldwide rights to finance, produce and distribute the film.

Schuyler, a former football player who is now a personal trainer in Tampa, told Variety: “I’m humbled that Relativity was interested in paying tribute to Marquis, Corey and Will, and I was impressed with their vision for the film and how they wanted to honor how these guys lived and loved their families, friends and teammates.”
