Harken said Rusty Rutherford of Laguna Niguel, Calif., accepted the position of West Coast sales representative.

Rutherford will represent Harken across all sales channels on the West Coast. He will work directly with aftermarket dealers, OEM and custom builders and non-marine accounts.

Rutherford was Harken's West Coast distributor sales manager in the 1990s. The company said he has spent the last 15 years as founder and owner of a successful manufacturer's representative business and, most recently, as Western region sales manager of International Paint’s yacht division.

"We are pleased to have Rusty back onboard," Harken U.S. sales manager Jim Andersen said in a statement. "His sailing industry knowledge and long-standing relationships with our customers on the West Coast are assets we value greatly. Rusty will continue to build on the solid foundation initiated by Don Whelan, expanding Harken's presence on the West Coast."

Through September, Whelan will complete ongoing projects and assist with the transition of Harken representation to Rutherford, the company said.
